Job Description
Join Mercy as an Associate Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialist, where you'll enhance the quality of patient care through accurate clinical documentation. This role involves collaboration with healthcare providers to ensure compliance and completeness in medical records, supporting the mission of compassionate care.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct concurrent and retrospective reviews of inpatient medical records
Identify opportunities for accuracy and completeness of clinical documentation
Collaborate with inpatient care providers for accurate documentation
Ensure documentation reflects Severity of Illness, Risk of Mortality, and service intensity
Required Qualifications
RN, BSN, RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CPC, CIC, CCDS, or CDIP
1-year related experience in acute care inpatient nursing or inpatient coding or HIM
Excellent critical thinking skills
Excellent communication skills (written and verbally)
Strong computer skills including typing ability
Ability to interpret clinical data
Detail oriented
Ability to work independently
Preferred Qualifications
3 years nursing, inpatient coding, or other HIM role in acute hospital setting
Knowledge of diagnosis-related groups (DRG), prospective payment systems
Utilization review/case management experience
CCDS or CDIP certification preferred
