Job Description
Join Chesapeake Oncology Hematology Associates as a Student Medical Assistant in an externship role. You'll provide essential support to patients and providers in a collaborative environment, gaining hands-on experience while ensuring high standards of patient care.
Key Responsibilities
Escort patients to and from exam rooms and complete patient intake
Clean and straighten exam rooms between patients
Prepare syringes and administer injections
Assist provider with injectable procedures
Prepare pathology and lab specimens and route to correct lab
Respond to patient questions in office and via phone
Schedule or re-schedule appointments
Work in compliance with OSHA and HIPAA standards
Maintain medication samples and discard out-of-date supplies
Train other employees on medical assistant duties
Assist with check-in or check-out procedures as needed
Perform additional duties as required
Required Qualifications
Completion of a Medical Assistant or Certified Nursing Assistant program
Professionalism and strong customer service skills
Ability to communicate clearly with doctors and patients
Ability to lift at least 15 pounds and stand for prolonged periods
Preferred Qualifications
At least one (1) year of medical assisting experience
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and work well within a team
