STEMI/Stroke: STEMI & Stroke Receiving (transfer out for intervention — no interventional cath lab)
Unit Details
- Beds: 24 rooms + 4 low-acuity bays (Fast Track)
- Trauma/Crash Room: 1 (within the 24 rooms)
- Behavioral Health Rooms: 4 secured rooms with “garage door” safety design
- Average Daily Census: 110–120 patients/day
- Triage: 24/7; travelers typically do not triage
- Fast Track: Yes – uses low-acuity bays
- Holding/Boarding: Intermixed; minimal boarding (up to ~20 hrs max). If 3–4 boarders, Med-Surg nurse assists.
- Security: In-house 24/7, stationed by triage
Staffing & Ratios
- RN:Patient Ratio: 1:3–4
- Charge Nurse: 24/7, non-assigned (works 7–7)
- Support Staff: ED techs, unit secretary (24/7), sitter if needed
- RT: 24/7 coverage; manages vents, CPAP, BiPAP (RNs troubleshoot only)
- MDs/Midlevels:
- 7 MDs total per 24 hrs
- 1 Midlevel (Noon–Midnight)
- 1 MD only between 2a–8a
Common Patient Types
- All ages (≈20% pediatric)
- Respiratory, abdominal pain, chest pain, strokes, STEMIs, walk-in trauma
- Outdoor/farm-related injuries (fishing, hiking, farming)
- Diverse population including migrant workers and older farmers
Diagnostics & Procedures
- RT Services: ABGs, breathing treatments
- EKGs: Done by RN or ED Tech
- X-Ray/CT: Located in same hallway; radiology transports
- Phlebotomy: RNs primarily draw; phlebotomy assists with difficult sticks
- Telemetry: RNs read and interpret (no monitor techs)
Scheduling & Logistics
- Shift Length: 12 hours
- Shift Start Times: 0730, 0900, 1000, 1130, 1330, 1530, 1930
- Scheduling: Self-schedule, finalized by manager
- Weekends: Every other weekend
- Holidays: As needed
- Call/Standby: None
- Floating: Possible to Meridian or Boise EDs (rare)
- Orientation: 1 shift
- Scrubs: Any color (clean and professional)

- Protocols run in lobby for waiting patients (IVs, labs, etc.)
