Job Description
Join Wake County Public School System as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist, where you will empower students with visual impairments to navigate their environments safely and independently. Collaborate with educators and families to foster academic and social success.
Key Responsibilities
Provide itinerant orientation and mobility services for students with visual impairments
Collaborate with school staff, parents, and community members
Assess students to determine orientation and mobility needs
Develop appropriate goals for orientation and mobility instruction
Provide instructional resources and materials related to students’ needs
Maintain accurate records and data on student progress
Communicate with parents and caregivers about student progress
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or related field
Three years experience supporting teachers and students with visual impairments
Hold or be qualified to hold a North Carolina Professional Educator’s License in Visually Impaired (VI)
Valid motor vehicle operator’s license
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in Special Education
Certification from Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation and Education Professionals (ACVREP)
Experience teaching students with visual impairments in orientation and mobility
