Join to apply for the Senior Director of Philanthropy role at The Rhode Island Public Health Institute Join to apply for the Senior Director of Philanthropy role at The Rhode Island Public Health Institute Position Title: Senior Director of Philanthropy THE RHODE ISLAND PUBLIC HEALTH INSTITUTE The Rhode Island Public Health Institute (RIPHI) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization working to reduce health disparities in Rhode Island and beyond. RIPHI oversees public health programs, conducts population health research, and trains students and practitioners. RIPHI owns and operates Open Door Health , the state’s first and only LGBTQ+ clinic, offering primary care, sexual health, gender-affirming care, and “express STI screening.” Open Door Health also hosts a Ryan White HIV treatment program and large HIV prevention initiatives. RIPHI also founded several innovative food and nutrition programs, including Food on the Move , one of the largest mobile produce markets in the U.and Nourish Rhode Island , which helped launch a statewide SNAP incentive program reaching 140,000 recipients and doubling their purchasing power for fresh produce. In 2024, RIPHI and Open Door Health launched a statewide initiative to integrate primary care with behavioral health services. Across all programs, RIPHI uses population health data to inform its work. RIPHI’s 5-year strategic plan includes launching a new research center and communications center to support its mission. In the past year, RIPHI secured more than $15 million in grant funding and led successful advocacy efforts that resulted in new legislation, appropriations, and statewide policy changes related to HIV prevention, access to medicines, food security, and health equity. RIPHI’s growing portfolio includes programs addressing HIV, STIs, PrEP, hepatitis C, food insecurity, nutrition, mental health, social determinants of health, and geographically focused health interventions. To learn more about RIPHI and Open Door Health, visit RIPHI is currently seeking an innovative and enthusiastic Director of Philanthropy to build and oversee our donor relations program and manage fundraising initiatives. A successful candidate will be responsible for developing RIPHI’s fundraising campaigns, cultivating a donor base, communicating with current and prospective donors, and building a The Director of Philanthropy will be responsible for launching a capital campaign to support a newheadquarters to host RIPHI’s team and Open Door Health. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership qualities, guiding the staff and Board of Directors in the bestdevelopment industry practices. The Senior Director of Philanthropy will have theopportunity to be a key player both in an internal operations role (managing development operations, communicationsstrategy etc.), and in an external facing role (direct fundraising, event management, and other activities). RIPHI is a financially stable, robustly funded organization that is looking to diversify funding streams through thecreation of a development department, with a goal of engaging individual and private donors. The Senior Director ofPhilanthropy will have a unique opportunity to build a development program for an established and growing nonprofit. The Senior Director of Philanthropy will create and implement a strategic development plan that includesall donors and public relations, direct mail appeals, special events, and related external communications. Serve as a member of the executive team and work collaboratively with team members to: o Be a key thought partner in the development and execution of organizational priorities, including strategic planning, infrastructure planning, staffing and budgeting. o Develop fundraising strategies to support agency activities and ensure streamlined budget development. Create budgets, establish forecasts and prepare evaluations of fundraising activities for the CEO, the Executive Team, and the RIPHI Board of Directors. o Over time, to establish and grow a philanthropic and fundraising team. Fundraising/Development: Creating and maintaining development systems and structures that provide both support and accountability for the department and its activities. Creating and overseeing fundraising events. Creating monthly fundraising reports and other database reports as needed. Work closely with the senior communications director. Assist the RIPHI team in grant writing for family and foundation grants. Maintain foundation, corporation and individual donor files. Other duties as needed and assigned by the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Medical Officer, and Chief Financial Officer. Help lead activities for our annual gala. Anticipated Performance Measures: New gifts with new individual, corporate, and foundation donors. Help lead a successful capital campaign for a new RIPHI and Open-Door Health Building. Ability to work well with the Chief Medical Officer and Chief Financial Officer on fundraising efforts. • Conversant in clinical and public health issues that impact the many diverse populations we serve. Conversant on the scientific issues that undergird our approaches to clinical care and public health programs. A minimum of 10 years' experience in a nonprofit development management position. Successful fundraising from multiple donor types. Have knowledge and experience in fund raising techniques, particularly major gift fundraising. Be a self-starter and goal driven to initiate donor visits and fundraising calls. Excellent verbal and written communications skills. Ability to present information concisely and effectively, both verbally and in writing. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Candidates must be comfortable working with diverse staff, clientele and vulnerable populations, including sexual and gender minorities, Latinx populations, people of color, and older adults.
