Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist and support surgeons by preparing and providing instruments and equipment during surgical procedures
  • Facilitate a safe, effective, and orderly operating room
  • Perform instrument counts prior to each procedure
  • Maintain an accurate count of sponges, needles, and instruments during procedures
  • Ensure the preparation and maintenance of the sterile field in the OR
  • Prepare patient skin for surgical treatment
  • Position and re-position patients during surgery
  • Monitor patients during surgery
  • Provide supportive care during the pre-operative phase
  • Perform scrub functions
  • Ensure correct handling and routing of specimens

Required Qualifications

  • HS Diploma or GED plus short-term training in operating room setting or graduate of surgical technician certification from an accredited school
  • Current BLS certification
  • Familiarity with all surgical instruments and equipment
  • Working knowledge of sterile and aseptic technique
  • Minimum of 2+ years experience in a hospital or outpatient operating room if not from an accredited training program

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with advanced surgical procedures such as neurosurgery, high risk Pediatric ENT, transplants, robotics, bariatrics, joint replacement, and vascular
