⚕️ Department Details
  • Trauma Level: Stroke & STEMI receiving; Level II (Adult & Peds).
  • Beds: 35 total | 2 trauma bays .
  • Fast Track: Yes – 8 beds.
  • Triage: Separate triage area using ESI algorithm . Travelers may triage.
  • Holding area: Intermixed in ER.
  • Psych/Seclusion rooms: Yes – staffed by ER nurses.
  • Security: In-house 24/7; stationed in ER during peak hours.
  • Daily patient volume: ~111 patients/day.
  • RN-to-Patient Ratio: 1:4.
? Skills, Certifications & Patient Types

Required Certifications:

  • BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC *
    TNCC may be waived for travelers with strong ER experience.

Common Diagnoses:

  • Full range: GSWs, violent crimes, strokes, STEMI, mental health, trauma.
  • Peds: Respiratory illnesses, fractures, trauma.

Common Drips: All critical care drips.

Providers in ER:

  • Mix of MDs & Midlevels.
  • During peak hours: ~2 MDs + 3 Midlevels.

Support Staff:

  • Charge Nurse: Team Lead 24/7.
  • Nurse Aids: LPN (nights), techs, paramedics (perform tech duties, IVs).
  • Blood Draws/EKGs: Done by nurses and techs.
  • RT: Available 24/7, responds to all codes; not housed in ER.
  • Phlebotomy: RNs/Techs draw labs.
  • Monitor Techs: None – ER nurses monitor and interpret strips.
  • Imaging: X-ray & CT next door.
    • 9a–9p: Transport handles patients.
    • After 9p: Nurses transport critical patients.
Scheduling & Shifts
  • Shift Length: 12 hours.
  • Start Times: Multiple (5a, 6a, 8a, 10a, 12p, 1p, 3p, 6p).
  • Scheduling: Manager sets schedule; will try to block.
  • Weekends: Every other.
  • Holidays: Every other.
  • Call/Standby: None.
  • Floating: None.
  • Scrubs: Caribbean Blue.
  • Unit Orientation: 1 × 12-hour shift.
