Psychiatric - Mental Health Physician at Veterans Health Administration summary:

The Psychiatric - Mental Health Physician provides specialized mental health care to veterans in both inpatient and outpatient settings within the Alexandria VA Health Care Network. Responsibilities include evaluating patients, prescribing medications, ordering diagnostic tests, and offering education and counseling to patients and their families. This role supports the Veterans Health Administration mission by delivering exceptional, personalized healthcare to improve veterans' overall well-being.

Psychiatrist Key Responsibilities:

  • Typical shift M-F, 8:00am-4:30pm, Night/Weekend/Holiday on-call by rotation
  • Protected administrative time
  • Evaluate and manage patients admitted to mental health inpatient service, and outpatient clinics including performing history and physical examinations.
  • Provide coverage to evaluate and manage mental health veterans in the Emergency Department, and consultation liaison service as needed.
  • Write prescriptions for medications, including controlled medications, ordering appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests.
  • Provide education, counseling, and documentation to patients and patients' families in preventive care, medical treatments, and the use of prescribed medications.

  • Competitive Salary: $220,000 - $250,000

Preferred Experience:

  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry.
  • Proficiency in performing evaluations and providing treatment to Veterans in inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen. Non-Citizen candidates will be considered if a U.S. Citizen is not found
  • Current full, active, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in any State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or District of Columbia.
