Med Surg (Medical Surgical) 2 years exp required Unit Notes: Float Pool RN Submission Requirements

• Driver’s License : Required for all submissions.
• EPIC Experience : Must have .
• Travel Experience : Preferred.
• License : Must have active Illinois RN license in hand prior to submission.
• Facility requires clinical prescreen .
• If recommended, manager has 24 hours to accept or decline (no second interview).

Patient & Staffing Details

• Nurse:Patient Ratios:
  • MedSurg/Tele: 1:5–6
  • IMCU: 1:5
  • CNAs: 1:10 ratio (may increase RN staffing if CNA shortage)
• Charge Nurse:
  • Days : Team Lead (no patients)
  • Nights/Weekends/Holidays : Charge takes patients
• CNAs/Sitters: CNAs available; non-CNA sitters used for suicide/behavioral cases.

Common Diagnoses

• Acute surgical, orthopedic/neuro (hip/knee), detox, hospice
• Med-Peds: mostly respiratory illnesses
• Telemetry: post-surgical, CHF, chest pain, radial cath (training provided for radial band management)
• IMCU: chest tubes, renal (PD), Bipap/Cpap (continuous on IMCU), rehab IVs

Certifications

• Required: BLS, ACLS
• Preferred: NIHSS

Experience Requirements

• No first-time travelers accepted.
• Minimum: 2+ years RN experience.
• Prior float experience preferred.
• IMCU nurses must have Cath Lab recovery experience .

Medication/Equipment Details

• Drips: Heparin per protocol only (no other titration on MedSurg/Tele).
• IMCU Titrations: Amiodarone, Cardizem, Dobutamine, Lasix, Insulin (Glucomander – non-titrated).
• RT Equipment:
  • Vents only in ICU (RT manages).
  • Bipap/Cpap: allowed on Med/Tele if home use; continuous use in IMCU/ICU.
  • Nurses may assist RT with nebulizer treatments upon request.

Telemetry

• Med/Tele: Remote telemetry with 24/7 monitor tech.
• ICU: Nurses manage their own strips.

Scheduling & Shifts

• Shift Times:
  • Most units: 5A–5P / 5P–5A (12 hours)
  • Behavioral Health: 7A–7P / 7P–7A
• Scheduling:
  • Float staff call in ≤1 hour before shift for assignment.
  • Initial schedule filled based on facility needs.
• Weekends: Every other.
• Holidays: Every other.
• Call/Standby: Not typically required.

Orientation

• Unit Orientation: One 12-hour shift (units are similarly structured).

Scrub Color

• Caribbean Blue

Radius Rule

• Clinicians with a permanent address within 50 miles are considered local (subject to reduced rate).
