Job Summary:
The Registered Nurse provides specialized, evidence-based nursing care to individuals and groups within the Cardiovascular Stepdown Unit (CVSU). The RN integrates knowledge from biological, physical, behavioral, social, and nursing sciences to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care. Care delivery aligns with The Christ Hospital’s model of care, promoting ongoing collaboration among patients, families, and healthcare teams.

Unit Description:
The Cardiovascular Stepdown Unit (CVSU) is a 32-bed progressive care unit specializing in cardiothoracic surgery and interventional cardiology. Patient populations include LVAD, innovative valve replacement, pectus excavatum, and post-STEMI cases. Nurses manage cardiac arrhythmias, titrate IV medications, and assist with conscious sedation for cardioversions. All staff maintain ACLS certification, ECG interpretation proficiency, and follow AACN Progressive Care Guidelines.

Responsibilities:

• Deliver age- and culturally appropriate patient care and education.
• Manage cardiac arrhythmias and titrate intravenous medications.
• Provide post-surgical care for cardiothoracic and interventional cardiology patients.
• Collaborate effectively with healthcare team members and maintain patient confidentiality.
• Accept and implement change in a dynamic healthcare environment.
• Maintain professional growth and ongoing clinical competence.

Requirements:

• Experience: Previous CVSU experience required; Cardiothoracic post-surgical experience preferred.
• Education: Diploma in Nursing required; BSN preferred.
• Licenses/Certifications: Active Ohio RN license or Compact license; BLS and ACLS (American Heart Association).
