• Radius Rule: Must live 100+ miles from facility

Unit Details

• Unit Name: PCU Cardiac/Intermediate Care - A2
• Beds: 36
• Patient Mix: Primarily PCU cardiac, may include Med-Surg overflow
• Nurse:Patient Ratio:
  • Days: 1:4
  • Nights: 1:5
  • MS overflow: 1:5
• Support Staff: PCAs (ratio 1:8–12), Monitor tech available
• Charge Nurse: Yes, typically non-assigned , may take 1–2 pts rarely

Patient Population

• Common Diagnoses:
  • Cardiac: CHF, NSTEMI, MI, heart block, bradycardia, VT, pacer, TAVR, Watchman, CABG (post-op day 2)
  • Procedural recovery: Cath lab, post-sheath removal
  • PCU overflow: Sepsis, respiratory failure, anemia, low BP, post-surgical, etc.

Certifications & Skills

• Required Certs:
  • BLS , ACLS , NIHSS
• Must Know Drips: (All are titrated by RN)
  • Amiodarone, Cardizem, Dobutamine, Dopamine, Heparin, Nitro (start only) , Insulin
• Tele/Monitoring:
  • RNs must be able to read tele strips
  • Support from dedicated monitor tech
  • Brand of tele monitors not specified

Vent/Respiratory

• Bipap, High-Flow, and stable trachs
• RNs expected to troubleshoot , not manage vents

Scheduling

• Shift Times: 6:45 AM – 7:15 PM or PM – AM
• Scheduling: Created by charge RN; Traveler requests considered
• Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend days/month
  • Days: Sat/Sun
  • Nights: Fri/Sat/Sun
• Holidays: Work 3 of 5 major holidays
• Low Census: May be called off full or partial shift

Floating

• May float to:
  • ICU (within scope)
  • Med-Surg floors

Orientation & Dress Code

• Orientation:
  • 1 day NEO
  • 1 day Clinical Education
  • 1 day on unit
• Scrubs: Navy blue (not provided)
