Position Overview:

The Senior Accountant in Investment Accounting will analyze The Hartford’s investment results, focusing on investments managed by HIMCO. Responsibilities include monthly reconciliations, analytics of invested assets on GAAP and statutory bases, management reporting, and preparing statutory footnotes and investment schedules.

Work Arrangement:

This role offers a Hybrid work arrangement, requiring in-office presence in Hartford, CT, 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor NAIC designations to ensure STAT reports comply with NAIC standards.
  • Gather documents for NAIC filings and submit them on time.
  • Participate in NAIC and stakeholder discussions on exposure drafts.
  • Understand GAAP and statutory guidance to assist with new accounting standards and investment strategies.
  • Assist in monthly closing of investment results, including reconciliations between the investment platform, sub-ledger, and general ledger.
  • Prepare analytics explaining primary drivers of movements for senior management.
  • Prepare and analyze investment sections of statutory statements, disclosures, and supplements.
  • Support Sarbanes-Oxley documentation and monitor internal controls.
  • Drive automation projects, including variance analysis using TM1 and other platforms.
  • Create internal management reporting tools and metrics monthly and quarterly.

Qualifications:

  • Experience with GAAP and/or statutory accounting and reporting.
  • Knowledge of investment reporting standards and disclosure preparation.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting/finance; CPA is a plus.
  • Big Four experience is advantageous.
  • 2-5 years of relevant experience in accounting, reporting, or finance.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proactive problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Proficiency with MS Office; TM1, Wdesk, Sovos, and Copilot are pluses.

Compensation:

The annual base pay ranges from $74,400 to $111,600, depending on experience and performance. Total compensation may include bonuses, incentives, and recognition programs.
