Description:

We are currently seeking a contract position for a Med/Surg RN located in or around the surrounding area of New York, NY .

Job Description: The Registered Nurse applies knowledge of nursing theory, technical, and communication skills in delivering high quality compassionate care to patients and families. The RN on 3 North develops specialized skill in the area of patients admitted for medical conditions, providing care to adult, adolescent, and geriatric populations with medical conditions. The 3 North RN is accountable for patient family education to assist in understanding self-care beyond hospitalization, including lifestyle changes to support health and healing. The RN is expected to promote comfort and provide emotional support in a Healing Environment.

Job Responsibilities:

• Applies nursing knowledge and skill in the delivery of care.
• Assesses patient/family needs through active listening, social perceptiveness, and analyzing data obtained through direct observation/assessment, technology, or health team communication.
• Creates developmentally and age appropriate, culturally relevant, individualized plans of care.
• Collaborates with patients, families, physicians, and healthcare team members to set goals and monitor patient progress.
• Adjusts care plans based on patient response or change in condition/reprioritization of needs.
• Promotes, advocates for, and protects the health, safety, and rights of patients.
• Teaches others as appropriate and delegates tasks consistent with individual's education, training, and scope of practice.
• Ensures compliance with infection prevention strategies.
• Educates patients/families on continuing care/healing at home based on their learning styles.
• Provides tools and information to assist patients/families after discharge.
• Documents education provided and patient/family response.
• Evaluates quality and effectiveness of nursing practice.
• Develops helping, trusting, and caring relationships with patients/families.
• Demonstrates skill in application of interventions including medication administration.
• Works full time (36 hours) plus 2 on-call shifts in 4 weeks with rotational days/nights/weekends/holidays.

Basic Hiring Criteria:

• NYS RN Licensure Required
• BLS Certification (AHA or RQI only)
• ACLS Certification (AHA or RQI only)
• NIHSS Certification
• One (1) Year Experience serving in Med/Surg Environment as a Registered Nurse

Desired Qualifications: Candidate should demonstrate ability to systematically evaluate quality and effectiveness of nursing practice and use results to initiate changes in individual nursing practice and care delivery. The ideal candidate engages in self-evaluation, identifying strengths and areas for professional development, and takes accountability to increase knowledge and enhance skills. Experience in creating a healing environment and forming meaningful connections with patients and families is highly valued.
