Position Description: 1. General job duties. Types of procedures required.
Nursing care and education of the Antepartum, Intrapartum, Postpartum, Post-Op Cesarean Birth moms.OB RN accompanies moms undergoing cesarean births to the OR where they assume the role of receiving the infant and then care for the infant in PACU (moms and babes go to PACU together). Resuscitation, stabilization of the at risk newborn as well as the well newborn. Care for the client undergoing hysterectomy, PPTL, and other GYN procedures. Occasional outpatient blood transfusions.
2. Equipment utilized in the unit/dept. (Is there computerized charting, medication systems, etc.)
CPSI computerized medical record. Pyxis and barcode scanning medication administration.Fetal monitors, IV infusion pumps, syringe pumps, oxyhoods, NEO PIP.
3. Required skills and minimum years of experience.
a minimum of one year experience in the OB with Newborn nursery obstetrics, labor and delivery and antepartum experience
4. Specific licensures and certifications/registrations required. (ARRT, CRT, BLS, ACLS, etc)
RN, NRP Qualified and have a current BLS and completed a Fetal monitoring course
5. Shift or schedule requirements. (Will the employee ever work alone? Is call required? If so, how often? Are weekends required?)
72 hours Bi-weekly both 8 and 12 hour shifts (7pm-7am and 3pm-11pm)- includes 2 weekends in a four week period ; Employee will not be expected to work alone (another OB staff RN will be inhouse at all times)
6. Floating to other units/departments. (If so, to which units/departments?)
Optional. May be asked to float to med/surg or ER as "helping hands" in periods of high census or emergency in those departments
7. Bed size/number of rooms for this unit/dept.
4 bed LDRP with capacity to increase to 5; 1 NST/triage room; 1 tub room; lactation space. Medication room is shared with the adjoining medical/surgical department.
8. Nurse to patient ratio of this unit. (nursing only)
We staff according to AWHONN Staffing Guidelines
9. Dress Code:
Srubs (provided by the hospital). Masks are required during flu season if not immunized.

Orientation is tailored to the needs of the individual.
Comments: 3x12s; 36 hours per week
Nights: 7:00pm - 7:00am
36 48 hours per week, with overtime starting after 48 hours
