Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct examinations and write prescriptions under physician supervision
  • Collaborate with physicians in managing acute and long-term medical needs of patients
  • Obtain health history to assess patient status
  • Order/perform laboratory diagnostic and other screening tests
  • Treat illnesses, give injections, and suture wounds
  • Monitor therapies and provide continuity of care
  • Counsel patient/family on preventive health care
  • Participate in peer reviews, chart reviews, staff education, and clinical guideline development

Required Qualifications

  • License and active registration as a physician assistant or registered nurse/nurse practitioner in New York State
  • Bachelor's or equivalent degree in physician assistant studies (for PA)
  • Passing grade on the Physician Assistant National Certifying Examination (for PA)
  • Current certification by National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (for PA)
  • At least one year of experience as a physician assistant in ambulatory health care (for PA)
  • Current CPR certification
  • Graduation from a nurse practitioner education program acceptable to NYSED (for NP)
  • Current certification as a nurse practitioner by AANPCB or ANCC (for NP)
  • Successful completion of pharmacology coursework acceptable to NYSED (for NP)
  • At least one year of experience as a nurse practitioner in ambulatory health care (for NP)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three years of professional nursing experience in an ambulatory setting (for NP)
