Job Description

As a Lead Veterinarian at the ASPCA, you will lead a dedicated team in providing essential veterinary care to underserved communities. You'll support both new and experienced veterinarians, ensuring the highest quality of care while fostering a positive team environment. This role combines clinical responsibilities with leadership, making a significant impact on animal welfare.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and monitor medicine and surgery provided at the clinics
  • Train veterinarians in HQHVSN techniques and other medical protocols
  • Support a positive work culture through regular 1:1s and performance evaluations
  • Ensure high-quality care with minimal fear and stress for patients
  • Perform pre-surgery physical examinations and surgical procedures
  • Provide compassionate, quality preventive and basic care to patients
  • Schedule staff veterinarians for optimal coverage
  • Participate in veterinary medicine rounds and meetings

Required Qualifications

  • Current California State Veterinary License
  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from an AVMA accredited veterinary college
  • Minimum one year of experience in high quality, high volume spay/neuter
  • Minimum three years veterinary experience in small animal medicine and surgery
  • Demonstrate true leadership abilities in challenging situations
  • Maintain open mind regarding changes and be willing to learn, implement, and teach new protocols
  • Possess ability to work in high-volume, fast-paced clinic environment
  • Excellent work attendance record
  • Fear FreeĀ® Shelter certification required within 60 days of hire

  • Previous people management experience
