Under limited supervision and/or according to established policy and procedure, is responsible for receiving, accessioning, and processing patient specimens in preparation for testing according to established laboratory procedures. Lab Processors are also responsible for handling phone calls, processing patient data, placing test orders/results and maintaining laboratory records.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide service appropriate to the age of the patients served, in accordance with MercyOne standards.
Is knowledgeable of and actively participates in improving patient safety and reducing risk to patients. Complies with Safety and Infection Control Policies and Procedures.
Is proficient in the appropriate designated use of Laboratory Information System, to include but not be limited to, department order entry, specimen log-in, modify collections, reprint labels, printing collection lists, printing pending collections, and other basic computer functions.
Is responsible for receiving, appropriately logging and verifying receipt of all specimen types in the laboratory according to laboratory policy and procedure including centrifuge of specimens where appropriate. Also distributes those specimens appropriately to the designated testing areas of the laboratory.
Effectively communicates with laboratory staff and clients in a professional manner. Responds promptly and courteously to client requests, concerns, and questions.
Actively participates in departmental meetings, committees, conferences, professional development opportunities and in-services.
Recognizes and communicates issues/occurrences utilizing established lines of authority and assists in identifying ways to resolve variances or unacceptable outcomes.
Responsible for handling phone calls, processing patient data, placing test orders/results and maintaining laboratory records.
Operation of pneumatic tube system for the receiving of various specimen types and sending of patient records as needed.
Complies with health and safety standards and guidelines such as maintaining a safe environment, reporting and recording of health and safety-related incidents, demonstrating understanding of emergency plans, and safe use of department equipment.
Maintains confidentiality of information pertaining to clients, physicians, employees, and MercyOne business.
Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, Trinity Health's Organizational Integrity Program, Standards of Conduct, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavior.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or GED required. Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
Previous experience or knowledge of computers and keyboarding, telephone operations and other office equipment desired.
Must be organized, able to prioritize and work in a fast-paced environment. Must possess good human relations skills and be able to communicate effectively both orally and in written form.
Must be able to accommodate scheduling adjustments, off-shifts, holiday, and weekend work assignments.
Is able to communicate effectively with all members of the health care team.
Is able to perform a variety of duties characterized by frequent change.
Must have a general working knowledge of computers and department specific software (i.e. Healthstream, internet, etc.)
Must possess excellent verbal and written communications skills, presentation skills, advanced analytical skills, be well organized and maintain a highly professional manner and appearance.
Strong interpersonal, consultative and relationship building skills in order to initiate and develop productive collaborative partnership with all levels of leadership across the organization. Ability to effectively influence results, garner support and tactfully manage complex relationships within and across the organization. Extremely high level of diplomacy and tact are required. Ability to read the subtle nuances of situation and react/plan accordingly.
Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.
