Job Description
Join Raytheon's Materials Engineering Department as a Principal Propellant Chemist, where you'll leverage your expertise in chemical analysis and materials applications. This onsite position in Tucson, AZ, involves engaging with suppliers, conducting hands-on testing, and leading characterization projects, all while contributing to vital defense initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Support programs in assessing supplier data from energetic suppliers
Conduct hands-on testing of materials using various laboratory techniques
Perform standard chemical analysis laboratory testing
Develop methods and test plans
Document and communicate results and findings
Collaborate with engineers and subject matter experts
Required Qualifications
Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry or equivalent experience
Minimum 8 years of relevant experience or 12+ years without a degree
Experience with propellant mixers and standard laboratory equipment
Experience in instrumental analysis techniques including FTIR, GC-MS, NMR, etc.
Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance
Preferred Qualifications
Equivalent military occupational specialty experience
Strong analytical chemistry application skills
ACS certified Chemistry degree
Understanding of Polymer Chemistry and Systems Engineering
Knowledge of material safety datasheets and Military/Industrial Specifications
Strong communication and project management skills
