Job Description

Join Raytheon's Materials Engineering Department as a Principal Propellant Chemist, where you'll leverage your expertise in chemical analysis and materials applications. This onsite position in Tucson, AZ, involves engaging with suppliers, conducting hands-on testing, and leading characterization projects, all while contributing to vital defense initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support programs in assessing supplier data from energetic suppliers
  • Conduct hands-on testing of materials using various laboratory techniques
  • Perform standard chemical analysis laboratory testing
  • Develop methods and test plans
  • Document and communicate results and findings
  • Collaborate with engineers and subject matter experts

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 8 years of relevant experience or 12+ years without a degree
  • Experience with propellant mixers and standard laboratory equipment
  • Experience in instrumental analysis techniques including FTIR, GC-MS, NMR, etc.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Equivalent military occupational specialty experience
  • Strong analytical chemistry application skills
  • ACS certified Chemistry degree
  • Understanding of Polymer Chemistry and Systems Engineering
  • Knowledge of material safety datasheets and Military/Industrial Specifications
  • Strong communication and project management skills
