Job Summary - RN-Outpatient Surgery provides direct and comprehensive nursing care to patients undergoing same-day surgical procedures in an outpatient setting
- Utilizing the nursing process, the RN assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates patient care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team to ensure safe and efficient surgical experiences
- The RN in this role supports pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative care within a fast-paced environment focused on patient comfort, safety, and education
Essential Functions - Provides pre-operative nursing assessment and education to patients and families
- Assists in preparing patients for surgery including IV starts, pre-medication, and documentation
- Monitors patient condition during recovery and post-anesthesia care
- Coordinates discharge planning and provides clear post-operative instructions
- Collaborates with surgical and interdisciplinary teams to ensure timely patient flow
- Documents patient care clearly and accurately in compliance with standards
- Advocates for the safety, privacy, and comfort of all surgical patients
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations - Strong assessment and critical thinking skills
- Ability to manage multiple patients in a high-volume, fast-paced outpatient setting
- Effective communication and teamwork abilities
- Familiarity with outpatient surgery protocols and infection control standards
- Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR)
- Committed to quality improvement and patient-centered care
- Physical ability to perform required duties, including prolonged standing and assisting in patient mobility
- Maintains compliance with all regulatory and institutional policies
- Attends required training and maintains current certifications and clinical competencies
Qualifications Education - Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
Licenses/Certifications - Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required within time frame specified in facility policy)
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification (required within time frame specified in facility policy)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification (required within timeframe specified in facility policy)
Experience - Minimum of one year of clinical nursing experience preferred
- Previous experience in an outpatient surgery, ambulatory surgery center, or perioperative environment strongly preferred
