Job Description

Join Wake County Public School System as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist, where you will empower students with visual impairments to navigate their environments safely and independently, fostering their academic and social success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide itinerant orientation and mobility services for students with visual impairments
  • Adapt classroom instruction for students to function socially and academically
  • Assess students to determine orientation and mobility needs
  • Develop and implement Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs)
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and community members

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or related field
  • Three years experience supporting teachers and students with visual impairments
  • North Carolina Professional Educator’s License in Visually Impaired (VI)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Special Education
  • Certification from Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation and Education Professionals (ACVREP)
  • Experience teaching students with visual impairments in orientation and mobility
