Unit Details
- Unit Type: Progressive Care / Intermediate Care
- Beds: 12
- Patient Ratio: 1:3–4 (RN); Tech 1:6–12 (varies by staffing)
- Patient Types: Trauma, Neuro (stroke, craniotomy, seizure precautions), Cardiac (STEMI, NSTEMI, CHF, AFIB with RVR, post-cath/ablation/TAVR), Medical/Surgical (COVID/respiratory failure, sepsis, post-op, COPD, trach/vent, thyroid storm)
Required Experience
- Minimum 1 year PCU experience
- If Med-Surg only → 2 years required with some PCU exposure
- First-time travelers not accepted (must have completed at least 2 travel assignments)
- Must have experience with:
- Cardiac drips (Amiodarone – set rate, Cardizem, Insulin titrations)
- High-flow O2, BiPAP, trach/vent care, chest tubes, wound vacs, drains/ostomy
- Neuro checks Q2H, trauma and stroke patients
Support on Unit
- CNA support (ratio 1:6–12)
- Charge nurse (may take patients if needed)
- Resource ICU-trained nurse 24/7
- Respiratory Therapy 24/7
- Phlebotomy & IV/VAT team support
Requirements
- Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS (required); AACCN/CCRN (preferred)
- EMR: Cerner (preferred)
- Other: IV start competency required
Additional Info
- Orientation: General hospital + 1 day on unit
- Shift Times: 7a–7:30p or 7p–7:30a
- Weekend Rotation: Every other
- Holidays: Based on unit need
- Scrubs: Any professional color
- Parking: Free in designated areas
