Ultrasound (Radiology) Department — Unit Notes
Important:
- All paperwork due: Wednesday at NOON MST , the week before start date
- Permanent address requirement: Must be at least 25 miles from facility location
Certification & Education Requirements
- Required: BLS
- Certifications: ARDMS (must have attended an accredited school; IBMC does not qualify )
- Acceptable Registry: Will accept CCI-RVS registry for vascular ultrasound techs

Department Overview
- Scanners/Rooms: 3 ultrasound rooms + 4 mobile units
- Coverage Areas: Outpatient, inpatient, and ER
- Average Studies per Day: 30–35 exams (with 4–5 techs)
- Common Exams: General ultrasound + vascular, thoracentesis, paracentesis, biopsies, FNAs
Technology & Systems
- EMR: Epic
- PACS: Fuji RIS/PACS
- Equipment: Philips systems
Staffing & Leadership
- Supervision: Lead Tech on day shift; one lead covers all areas on nights
- RRA (Registered Radiology Assistants): None
- Radiologist Coverage:
- In-house: 8 AM–5 PM, Monday–Friday (2 radiologists)
- After hours: On call until midnight, then transferred to nightshift radiology
Scheduling Details
- Shift Options:
- Days: 8s, 10s, or 12s (2–3 twelve-hour shifts typical)
- Nights: 4x10s and 3x12s (includes weekends)
- Weekend Requirement: Yes
- Holiday Coverage: Yes — travelers typically scheduled to cover perm staff
- Call Requirement: Yes — 30-minute response time
- Self/Block Scheduling: Not specified; flexibility emphasized
- Solo Coverage: May occur depending on shift
