Position Overview:
We’re seeking an experienced and detail-oriented CAD Designer / Draftsperson with a solid background in structural steel detailing to join our dynamic team. This is a full-time, on-site position that offers more than just a drafting desk. We’re looking for someone who is eager for a variety of challenges and wants to expand their role beyond traditional detailing.
This is not a 24/7 detailing job —we welcome applicants who may feel burnt out from repetitive work and are ready for a more engaging, multifaceted role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create detailed 2D and 3D CAD drawings for structural steel fabrication and installation
- Coordinate civil, structural, and mechanical components for cohesive integration
- Prepare documentation for crane lift planning, equipment placement, and access logistics
- Contribute to permitting processes and support design tasks as needed
- Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and field personnel to meet project goals
- Revise designs based on field and management feedback
- Maintain organized records of all drawings, revisions, and project documentation
- Assist in estimating, answering phones, and providing general office support
- Support project managers with opportunities to grow into an assistant project management role
Required Qualifications:
- Proficiency in AutoCAD or equivalent CAD tools (2D/3D)
- 5+ years of structural steel detailing experience
- Strong grasp of civil, mechanical, and structural engineering fundamentals
- Ability to produce highly accurate technical drawings
- Excellent attention to detail, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Capable of managing multiple tasks with minimal supervision
- Must be able to work on-site (remote work is not available)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Drafting, Engineering, Design, or a related field
- Prior experience in the structural steel industry
- Familiarity with industry codes, standards, and best practices
